Fifteen year old Katie Newell became NCI’s youngest qualified watch-keeper, when she passed her assessment in February 2012,Katie from Torquay Girls Grammar School,has been training at Torbay for the last year,and was assessed by Senior Watch-keeper and Assessing Officer Ray Hifle.
Katie whose Grandfather is Watch-keeper Peter Milner,Torbay’s Membership Officer,and Senior Watch-keeper Andy Milner,Kaie’s uncle, have been instrumental in her training.Although she is not able to cover any watches on her own she will work as part of Torbay’s team,covering watches with her uncle and grandfather until she is old enough.Katie was delighted to have qualified after a lot of hard work and is now about to embark on her VHF course.
Station Manager Peter Temple said we are delighted to welcome someone so young and talented to our station and we are sure she will be a very useful asset.
